Beijing, Feb. 18 (Xu Jing)

Beijing is accelerating the construction of an international science and technology innovation center and building new advantages in innovation-driven development. During the preparations for the Winter Olympics, Beijing has tested more than 200 technologies, involving more than 60 subdivided application scenarios, of which 4 technologies were launched for the first time in the world and 33 technologies were used for the first time in the Winter Olympics.

From epidemic prevention and control to the torch relay, from the competition area to the field competition… The ubiquitous power of science and technology has made the Beijing Winter Olympics safer, greener and more exciting, and also made the life of Beijing, the “city of two Olympic Games”, better.

Technology makes epidemic prevention more controllable

A total of 91 countries and regions participated in the Beijing Winter Olympics. In order to help the accurate prevention and control of the epidemic, Beijing has deployed more than 150 bioaerosol new coronavirus surveillance systems in various Winter Olympic venues, which can timely detect the air environment at various points in the venues, and the detection sensitivity is three times higher than that of traditional means.

Aerosol refers to a colloidal dispersion system composed of tiny particles suspended in the air for a long time and generally below 100 microns, and its particles are less than 100 microns, and the transmission distance of more than 1 meter can be directly inhaled into the lungs, which is highly infectious. Therefore, aerosols are one of the important ways of transmission of the new coronavirus.

The biological aerosol new coronavirus nucleic acid monitoring system is composed of two parts: portable aerosol collector and integrated high-sensitivity new coronavirus nucleic acid detector: in the collection link, the air flow of the aerosol collector reaches 400 liters / minute, and aerosol particles within 12 cubic meters can be collected within half an hour and enriched into the virus inactivation liquid, and the virus enrichment efficiency is the highest for similar products in China; In the detection link, the integrated high-sensitivity new coronavirus nucleic acid detector can realize automated and fully enclosed new crown detection, and the whole process analysis time is less than 45 minutes.

From April to July 2021, the system was clinically tested and verified in Beijing Ditan Hospital for more than 100 samples. The results showed that the positive detection rate reached 3 times that of the existing real-time PCR system.

In addition, the Beijing Winter Olympics also equipped more than 30,000 multi-sign sensing devices for event service support personnel, which can timely detect and report the physical abnormalities of relevant personnel, making the venue “safer”.

Technology makes the game more exciting

The excitement of the Beijing Winter Olympics is overflowing in the arena and has also been transmitted to millions of households through new technologies. In the broadcast of various competitions, the application of digital and simulation technologies such as 8K and artificial intelligence has continuously improved the new experience of watching the Winter Olympics.

8K is a new video resolution, with 4 times the clarity of 4K and 16 times that of 1080p, which is the mainstream direction of future display technology. In order to provide an “immersive” viewing experience for people who cannot watch the game in person, Beijing has built the world’s largest urban 8K stereoscopic broadcasting system, deploying 20 large display screens and more than 200 8K TVs in all districts and more than 150 communities in the city. During the Winter Olympics, Beijing broadcast more than 200 hours of 8K programs with clearer pictures and more beautiful colors, allowing the audience to appreciate the hard power of science and technology while “getting closer” to the Winter Olympics.

There are more than 27 million people with hearing disabilities in China. In order to enable the hearing-impaired to have an in-depth understanding of the competition information, since February 5, the digital human sign language broadcasting system has been “on duty” in Beijing Satellite TV’s “Beijing You Early”. Compared with traditional manual sign language broadcasting, the system reduces the operating costs of Winter Olympic programs, and is faster when presenting sign language broadcasts, making it more convenient for hearing-impaired people to watch event reports.

Technology makes the tournament greener

The Beijing Winter Olympics is the Olympic Games with the richest hydrogen energy demonstration application scenarios, and hydrogen energy has played an important role in helping the Beijing Winter Olympics achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.

The handheld torch “Feiyang” of the Beijing Winter Olympics used hydrogen as fuel for the first time, which is the world’s first set of high-pressure hydrogen storage torches, achieving zero carbon emissions for torches in the history of the Winter Olympics. At the same time, the characteristics of hydrogen fuel also ensure that the torch can be used in extremely cold weather, and can withstand wind level 10, even in winds of 100 kilometers per hour.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles emit only water during driving and are known as the “ultimate eco-friendly car”. In Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou, 816 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles were used as the main transportation capacity to carry out demonstration operation services.

It is understood that among the hydrogen fuel cell vehicles currently in operation, the bus jointly developed by Toyota-Foton can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 57.86 kilograms per 100 kilometers and have a cruising range of more than 400 kilometers. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles not only achieve zero carbon emissions, but also achieve no compromise in cruising range.

Technology makes cities better

In the “post-Winter Olympics” era, Beijing will continue to provide application scenarios for the achievements of the Winter Olympics in urban development, so that the scientific and technological achievements of the Winter Olympics will become a new driving force for the construction of the Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center. Xu Qiang, director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, said this a few days ago.

Beijing will accelerate the implementation of smart venue technology in urban scenes. Relying on smart technologies such as BIM and digital twin technology, we will build a smart management system for large-scale public construction to make its operation and management more accurate and efficient. At present, Beijing has begun to promote the use of these new technologies in some large public buildings and hub buildings in the sub-center of the city.

Beijing will accelerate the popularization of green and low-carbon technologies. Use fuel cell commercial vehicle technology, green power technology, carbon dioxide ice technology, and intelligent transportation technology to promote the development of low-carbon green industries in the city.

Beijing will use the Winter Olympics dividend to promote the development of ice and snow sports, making the “post-Winter Olympics” a new starting point for the development of ice and snow sports in China. New ice and snow equipment, new thermal materials such as graphene, and intelligent interactive experience technologies such as immersive and multi-dimensional free perspective will promote the integrated development of technology, culture, tourism and sports in Beijing.

Beijing will accelerate the cultivation of leading enterprises. Promote the application of “cloud broadcasting” technology, 8K high-definition video technology, service-oriented intelligent robots, etc., strengthen the application and experience layout of intelligent technology scenarios, build the “Beijing Intelligent Manufacturing” brand, and help technology-based enterprises accelerate their development.
