Do sunglasses really protect against UV rays? Why do some sunglasses feel dizzy when you wear them? Recently, the Shenzhen Consumer Commission released the “2021 Sunglasses Comparative Test”, and the results showed that 3 brands of sunglasses, such as BPLON (Tyrannosaurus), Concrete, and MOLSION (Mosen), ranked low. PROSUN and Ray· The light intake of the left and right lenses of Ban Ray-Ban glasses samples has a large deviation; In terms of the deviation between the optical center and the prism degree, the test star of brand samples such as MOLSION (Mosen) and Mujiu ranked low. In addition, the Shenzhen Consumer Council reminds consumers that sunglasses are not suitable for three types of people, including glaucoma, color blindness and night blindness.

Evaluation

BPLON (Tyrannosaurus), Mosen and other 3 sunglasses

Ranked low in the assessment score

Recently, the Shenzhen Consumer Commission released the “2021 Sunglasses Comparative Test”, which evaluated 15 hot-selling brand sunglasses, including 8 polarized sunglasses and 7 non-polarized sunglasses, involving 15 samples of BOLON (Tyrannosaurus), Kawakubo Rei, MOLSION (Mosen), Mujiu and other brands. Tests include optical performance (visible spectral range transmittance & relative deviation of left and right sheets, UV spectral range transmittance, signal transmittance, optical center and prism deviation, polarization ratio) and physical safety (perspiration resistance).

Fifteen sunglasses meet the relevant standards. From the overall evaluation results, 6 sunglasses were rated five stars, 6 sunglasses were rated four and a half stars, and 3 glasses were rated four stars, ranking last in the overall evaluation results. The three samples were BPLON (Tyrannosaurus), Concrete, and MOLSION sunglasses.

PROSUN and Ray· Ban Ray-Ban glasses sample

The amount of light received by the left and right lenses is deviated greatly

The project “Relative deviation of the visible spectral range transmittance ratio to the left and right lenses” is used to investigate the difference in the amount of light intake between the left and right lenses, if it does not meet the requirements of the standard, the amount of light intake of the left and right eyes will be different, which is easy to produce visual fatigue and may affect vision health. According to the national standard, the relative deviation of the light transmittance ratio between the left and right pieces of sunglasses should not exceed 15%, and the smaller the deviation, the better.

The evaluation results show that the transmittance of the visible spectrum range of 15 sunglasses and the relative deviation of the left and right pieces meet the requirements of relevant standards. Among them, PROSUN and Ray· The Ban Raiban sunglasses sample had a large deviation in all samples, with a relative deviation of 12.81% and 12.25% in the visible spectral range transmittance between the left and right sheets, respectively, and the LOHO sample performed best in this item, with a test result of 0.97%.

The optical center is offset from the prism degree

MOLSION (MOSSEN), WOOD NINETY AND OTHER BRAND SAMPLE TEST STAR RANKING IS LOW

The deviation between the optical center and the prism degree refers to the refraction effect produced when observing things through the lens, and the position of the observation is deflected, and the closer the deviation is to 0, the better. Sunglasses that deviate beyond the tolerance may cause blurred vision, deformation, and even dizziness and nausea after wearing.

The test results showed that the deviation of the optical center and prism degree of 15 sunglasses all met the requirements of the relevant standards, but the samples of four brands such as Pasha, MOLSION (Molsion), Mujiu0 and Concrete performed relatively weakly and were four-star.

Ray· Sample of Ban Ray-Ban and Helen Keller

The polarization ratio item excelled

Polarization ratio is one of the important optical properties to measure polarized lenses, the higher the polarization ratio, the better the polarization effect. The role of polarized lenses is to filter out the diffuse light reflected in the environment, allowing only light from a specific direction to pass through. For example, if you wear polarized sunglasses while driving, you can greatly reduce the reflection of the ground, and you will see the road more clearly than wearing ordinary sunglasses.

The results showed that all 8 polarized sunglasses met the standard requirement for polarization ratio (8:1). where Ray· Ban Ray-Ban sunglasses and Helen Keller sunglasses are much higher than the standard requirements and have similar left-right ratios, which are outstanding.

In addition, as far as the rest of the test items are concerned, the measured value of the transmittance of the ultraviolet spectral range of 15 sunglasses is 0, which meets the standard requirements, has strong anti-ultraviolet ability, and can effectively resist ultraviolet rays to protect the eyes; All 15 sunglasses passed the traffic signal transmittance test to identify traffic lights. The frames of all samples were tested for resistance to perspiration and corrosion. Under simulated sweat corrosion, no discoloration, coating corrosion or peeling was found in the part that was in contact with the skin for a long time (the inside of the frame and the lower edge of the lens rim).

Consumption tips

Three types of people, such as glaucoma, color blindness and night blindness, are not suitable for wearing sunglasses

For the purchase and selection of sunglasses, the Shenzhen Consumer Commission prompts that you pay attention to the category on the label or temple and purchase according to your needs. Because there are mainly two categories of sunglasses currently sold on the market, one is sunshades and the other is light-colored sunglasses. Depending on the classification, the purpose is also very different. Among them, polarized sunglasses are suitable for outdoor activities such as fishing and driving. In addition, sunglasses are not suitable for everyone, and three types of people, such as glaucoma, color blindness and night blindness, are not suitable for wearing sunglasses. Consumers who have purchased sunglasses should also check their lenses regularly and replace them in time when the lenses scratch or the film layer bursts.
